What is the difference between Proofreading and Editing?
Before I say what is different I will begin with the similarity; Clients retain full control of the changes incorporated into their documents whether after a proofread or and edited service is provided.
Proofreading
Proofreading is completed using tracked changes. An author can accept all changes proposed or review each suggestion and choose to accept or reject the suggestion. Comments, corrections, and suggestions are listed in the right-hand margin and are easy to identify. Effective proofreading requires a fully edited version of your document. In effect, a finished version of the document. Additional drafts supplied would then be another contracted piece of work. This will be established at the initial phase of the works to ensure that there is complete transparency and the proofreading can begin.
Editing
To ensure the works are ready for proofreading a form of editing is required.
There are different versions of editing as described below. However I concentrate on copy editing and then proceed to proofreading. The stage of the written document specifies which type of editing is required. There are developmental and line editing steps that are required prior to copy editing. If the document is not ready for a copy editing it will be returned with the suggested adjustments or amendment. If the document has been copy edited a read-through of the document will determine how to proceed. I would only proceed after confirmation from the client.

*Total quote would vary depending on the genre of the document, word count and a realistic deadline for the finished works. On average 10,000 words in 5 days would be considered realistic. Communication for transparency is key.

As a British educated professional my strength lies in British English. I have had the advantage of being surrounded by wonderful trainers from all over the world and have gained extensive insight into the differences between the structure of tenses, and vocabulary to express the same thoughts, feelings, events and objects. I have learnt to embrace the differences as the differences will remain. I try to stay in my lane and focus on British English.
